It is a sad fact when companies such as Mercedes Benz - who have huge R&D and design budgets, decide to re-launch such a prestigious name based on run of the mill design themes that have stifled the original intent of the much fabled Maybach name. No doubt the current crop of Maybachs and even the much loathed Maybach Landaulet are marvels in their own right but they fail to deliver the all important Wow factor and instead have garnered sneers. Cars in this rarefied category run a very fine line between being cherished through the ages and being labelled as over the top ostentatious White Elephants – so I guess Mercedes Benz will have be much more imaginative that chopping the top of a Maybach 62 and painting it White which only makes matters worse. I have faith that Mercedes Benz could pull it off given a second chance – every one learns from their mistakes... or do they?
